Cranberry Street Fair Is Sunday October 5

This official dispatch just in regarding this year’s Cranberry Street Fair:

Cranberry Fair Flyer Final (2)

Neighbors have converged for years in early October to hold a non-commercial block party that unites our entire Brooklyn community. We are holding our annual Fair, rain or shine, on Sunday, October 5th from 11 AM to 3 PM. The Fair spans Cranberry Street
From Hicks to Willow Streets.

The Cranberry Street Fair is fun for everyone:

For little ones this year, pony rides begin the day. There are games and contests as well as face painting and pumpkin coloring. The fire engine from the 205th is parked on Willow Street for children to climb and to greet our fire-fighters (unless the 205th is busy).

Once again we feature Erik Loffswold’s live jazz and Mimi Soltana’s beautiful tribal belly-dance troupe. Jemilla’s Yoga class is a moving meditation. New this year is a performance and sing along with Jerri Bokeno of the 60’s girl group Shangrilas.

Families and friends can be photographed in framed Victorian cut-outs appropriate to our
Victorian historic district.

We’re green! Material on urban gardening and conservation is available. So are voter registration forms.

The ever-popular Pet Parade concludes with all participants winning a first prize.

The “must include” Cranberries Bake-off demonstrates local culinary skills.

Food and drink is on sale as are books, brilliant autumnal plants, fleas and used treasures. Museums, restaurants and local shops contribute to the Raffle that is the Fair’s grand finale. Modest proceeds go towards neighborhood beautification.

Help! We welcome new energy.

We need books and any of your treasures that need a new home. Please bring donations with you on October 5th (the earlier the better).

We need Volunteers on October 5th beginning at 9:30 to set up and through the day.
This is a good opportunity to meet your neighbors and participate in a traditional, yet always evolving urban community activity.

Drat it, I have to miss the Cranberry Street Fair this year. Looks like it’s going to be great.

    Ah, the Shangri-Las.

    Respect to the originals.

Just a small correction – Eric Loffswold (jazz musician) is incorrectly listed as “Erik Loffswald” a couple of times in this posting. His name is spelled correctly on the Cranberry Street flyer though. Thanks.

I’ve been going to this for many years, and it’s always fun. Unlike Atlantic Antic and other humongous gatherings, absolutely no commercial vendors. I plan to bring some books and other stuff for them to sell.

small correction, it is Mimi Fontana, not Soltana..
