The annual Grace Church School Carnival will be held this Saturday, April 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Grace Church, 254 Hicks Street (between Grace Court and Joralemon). The carnival features food, including BBQ from Hill Country, pony rides, a photo booth, a tumbling zone, bouncy rides, and other activities. There will be live music starting at 1:00 p.m. Admission is $25 per child, including food and all activities. Adults are admitted free; BBQ is $10. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Grace Church School, a non-denominational pre-K through kindergarten school.
This Friday, the Brooklyn Heights Cinema will begin showing Ritesh Batra’s The Lunch Box. The Cinema will also be showing The Grand Budapest Hotel. Tonight (Thursday, April 24) is your last chance to see Joe at the Cinema. More information and showtimes are here.
On Friday evening at 8:00 the Brooklyn Historical Society will present “Brain Frame,” an “evening of comics and zine artists sharing work that’s impossible to put on the printed page.” Attendees are advised to “[e]xpect the ambitiously weird!” Admission is $8, or $5 for BHS members; reserve tickets here. This event will kick off a weekend long “Zine Fest”; more details here. On Saturday afternoon the Society will present a walking tour of the recently landmarked Wallabout Historic District. Bargemusic has three concerts scheduled this weekend. On Friday evening at 7:00 there will be “Some Other Time: American Classics for Cello and Piano,” with works by Barber, Bernstein, and Foss, performed by Zuill Bailey on cello and Lara Downes on piano. Saturday evening at 7:00 there is ““Around the Great War,” with works by Rebecca Clarke, Ives, and Ravel, performed by the Gryphon Trio. Sunday afternoon at 4:00 there wiil be works by Stravinsky, Tartini, Vivaldi, and Shostakovich performed by Helena Baillie on violin and Dina Vainshtein on piano. There will be a Docent Tour of Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park, on Sunday. These “[t]ours cover BBP’s design, history, and ecology.” This tour is free, and begins at noon at the entrance to Pier 1 (near the foot of Old Fulton Street). Space is limited, so please arrive early. Smorgasburg will be on the Pier 5 uplands at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
On Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.the Dodge YMCA, 225 Atlantic Avenue, will celebrate Healthy Kids Day. There will be “fun & healthy activities for the whole family, including a petting zoo, magic show, health fair, bounce house, arts & crafts and a visit from Radio Disney!” The event, which is free, also serves as an open house for the Y’s summer camp.
