Last Minute Weekend Suggestions, Brooklyn Heights and Nearby

For those in town during the post-Independence Day weekend, Bargemusic has a full schedule of concerts. Friday evening at 8:00 there’s a “Here and Now” concert featuring works by several contemporary composers, performed by mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna, pianist Olga Vinokur (photo), pianist David Kalhous, and flutist Amelia Lukas. On Saturday evening at 8:00 there’s a “Masterworks” concert featuring brother and sister Andy Lin on viola and erhu and Kelly Lin on piano. Sunday afternoon at 2:00 cellist Jeffrey Solow will perform the first of two concerts presenting, with commentary, the six solo cello suites of J.S. Bach. On Saturday afternoon at 3:00 there will be a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert, program and musicians TBA. The doors open at 2:30; it’s first come, first seated. More info and buy tickets here.

The Brooklyn Heights Cinema will be showing The Bling Ring and The Attack. Showtimes are here. Looking ahead to next Thursday, July 11, at 8:00 p.m. the Cinema will present Bob Marley: The Making of a Legend. To reserve tickets, e-mail rsvp@htscinema.com

Contrary to my last LMWS, there will be stargazing tonight (Thursday, July 4) with members of the Amateur Astronomers Association and their telescopes on the Pier 1 esplanade, Brooklyn Bridge Park.
