Northern Italian Restaurant Sociale Coming to Brooklyn Heights

Sociale, a restaurant specializing in Northern Italian cuisine, will soon be opening, according to manager Fancesco Nuccitelli. Nuccitelli, a native of Modena, Italy, came to the U.S. seven years ago, and got his first job at a restaurant in the East Village. “I thought I would be a manager, but they gave me a bike and some pizzas and said, ‘Manage these.'” From these humble beginnings, Nuccitelli worked his way up and learned his craft in several restaurants in Manhattan, before taking the big leap to now becoming restaurant manager.

Located on 72 Henry St., Sociale’s menu will feature the Northern Italian emphasis on béchamel sauce, as in its lasagna, and offer a taste of the experimental. If all goes well with the paperwork (the most glamorous part of restaurant management), Nuccitelli said Sociale will be opening in “about two weeks. Even my kids can’t wait.”

Good luck. I’ll be there weekly. PLEASE offer a proper carbonara.

And your ironwork facade really looks nice.

  • DIBS

And a cheese course with a nice robiolla!!!!!

  • francesco

CARBONARA is on the lunch and on the brunch menus. i decided to put that in once i read a comment of yours 5/6 months ago on this blog (believe it or not). i’ll be happy and honored to have you to try our carbonara.
Thank you for the compliment on the front store, that’s Mike’s credit (my landlord, investor besides my mentor/brother/best friend).

Hi. Thanks so much. If you are there today around 1:30-2:00 or so I’ll stop by. Otherwise headed to Provincetown for 2 weeks and back early July.

Really looking forward to your opening

  • francesco

i’ll be there with the all crew for POS training. Please stop by, and i’m confident we’ll be ready to serve you food once back from Provincetown.

  • Peter Loibl

Best of luck Francesco and welcome to neighborhood! Excited to visit your restaurant (and try that Carbonara, for starters).

Advice: Keep it simple, simple, simple. See how Bevacco tried to be too “creative”? It’s empty and will for sure go out of business when the lease is up. BHers like it simple and plentiful… They miss La Traviatta if that makes any sense… Welcome to the Hood — the more the merrier. FYI — the restaurant is not at 75 Henry. I think it is 76 or 74. PLEASE — have some good hot starters…

Bevacco always seems crowded (and noisy) when I’m there. I would admit that initially their wines were too expensive, or at least there were no bottles in th $30-50 range, only >$50.

If one is hurting financially, you don’t wait until the lease is up to shut down.

He owns a popular place in The Slope that keeps the place flush. I walk by twice a day, every day. It is dead, mostly. Just the other night there was a line at Noodle Pudding, almost every seat was taken at Henry’s End, and Bevacco had abut 4 tables seated… Last I ate there the food was okay, but it takes forever and a day to have a meal and it is just off somehow.

Plus its “decor” makes one feel undead….

  • Bloomy

Francesco, any chance of having a gluten free pasta option at the new place?

  • francesco

@ Bloomy. First let me hank you for your comment. We are gonna have plenty of gluten fee pasta option (spaghetti, penne, rigatoni) unfortunately they won’t be fresh homemade like all the other pastas on the menu to avoid cross contamination.

  • francesco

@ HenryLoL: Thank you for the advice!!! we made our menu following our beings. we are simple people and our motto is “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. Humbleness is our guiding value.

  • francesco

@ PeterLoibl: Thank you very much. We can’t wait to start, meet and serve you and your family.

  • Bloomy

Sounds great! Best of luck with your opening. I’ll be sure to come by the first weekend you are open.

  • Ellie

Best of luck Francesco – first weekend of business is crucial, otherwise the folk in the hood get brutal! I’ll be there soon to sample the fruits of the kitchen!

  • francesco

@ Ellie. Thanks !! !! Believe me i really feel the pressure, i know the neighborhood, i’d lived in the same building were the restaurant is for almost 3 years, i couldn’t even imagine to start a business without having a deep touch of the audience i’m gonna deal with. Everybody is great with us, all the places i’ve been going for all these years (Siggy’s, Cranberry’s, Jack the Horse, the laundry next door, Clark’s Restaurant, Deli across the street, Plymouth, Frascati, Fortune Chinese) are being very supportive….many many residents are stopping by to ask us when we open and wishing us best of luck. we already feel very cuddled by the beautiful Heights… and i strongly hope that i and my staff are gonna deserve such a touching treatment. I really can’t wait to have you at Sociale!!!

Bevacco is great for a late night cappuccino. Often when I have work to do and a friend wants to meet “for a drink” Bevacco is the best solution because I can get a coffee and a snack and go back to work. I love it for that.

I love northern Italian food. I cannot wait to try the menu, best of luck!

  • francesco

Thank you very much. i’ll see you at Sociale!!!

  • Mike A C

Please have good simple food, i love river deli but if this opens up and has a similar menu ill be here everynight!

  • francesco

i went to River Deli 3/4 months ago with a wine importer that sells to them. i’ve met the owners and tasted their food…and i loved both. they are super nice, genuine and professional and the food they offer is simple and delicious (not to mention the space which is supercool). we’ll keep it simple at Sociale, and i hope we will satisfy your palate preferences as well Mike!!

Best of luck with the new restaurant, Francesco! I have a question I’d like to ask privately. Is there an email address I could contact you at? Thanks!
