Tonight (Thursday, March 21) and tomorrow night, (Friday, March 22), starting at 8:00, Bargemusic will present Sylvia, an opera by contemporary composer Julia Adolphe (photo). On Saturday evening, also at 8:00, there will be a “Masterworks” concert featuring works by Brahms, Mahler, Liszt, and Spohr. On Sunday afternoon at 2:00 there will be a performance of Beethoven piano sonatas (continuing a series in which all will be performed) with commentaries, with Jeffrey Swann on piano. On Saturday afternoon starting at 3:00 (doors open at 2:30) there is a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert. More details are here.
Brooklyn Heights Cinema, 70 Henry Street (corner of Orange) will be showing two new movies starting this weekend: Admission, starring Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, and a perennial favorite of mine, Lily Tomlin; and Ginger & Rosa, starring Elle Fanning, Alice Englert, Annette Bening, and Oliver Platt. On Saturday, starting at noon, the Brooklyn Historical Society, in conjunction with Big Onion, will offer another of their Historic Brooklyn Heights walking tours. More information is here.
