Brooklyn Women’s Exchange Expands Greeting Card Offerings

Seeking to cater to a market for high quality hand crafted greeting cards previously served by Overtures, the Brooklyn Women’s Exchange, 55 Pierrepont Street, has increased its stock and variety of cards. Exchange volunteer Sadie Horton proudly directed me to the new card display (photo).

Here is a closer view of some of the cards available at the Exchange. Another BWE volunteer, Joan Small (mother of BHB’s own TK Small), says the current display includes “beautiful Easter cards, baby cards, sets of note cards, gift tags, gift wrap, and ribbons” (alas, from your correspondent’s point of view, none of the very funny, slightly raunchy birthday cards you could find at Overtures), and notes that “the mission of the Women’s Exchange [is] to support independent craftspeople [and that] 70 percent of every dollar spent goes directly to the artisan.”

The Exchange’s hours are 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

70% to the crafter, eh? Would they retail my handmade, artisanal comments?
