In town for the long weekend? Bargemusic, moored to the Fulton Ferry Pier at the foot of Old Fulton Street, is having a “Here and Now Labor Day Festival” featuring works by contemporary composers, performed by an array of musicians, including The Knights, a celebrated local chamber orchestra, and Rob Schwimmer, who will play “Piano, Theremin, and introducing new instrument Haken Continuum.” More details are here (scroll down). Concerts are at 8:00 p.m Friday and Saturday, and 2:00 p.m. Sunday. “Most pieces, but not all, will be performed by the listed performers on all days.” Admission is $35 ($30 seniors, $15 students). You may reserve seats by e-mailing reservations@bargemusic.org and pay at the door with cash or check, or you may buy tix in advance at the box office. Bargemusic will also have a free, family oriented Music in Motion concert Saturday afternoon at 3:00 (doors open at 2:30; no reservations are taken).
Brooklyn Heights Cinema, 70 Henry Street (corner of Orange) will be showing Killer Joe, “a totally twisted deep-fried Texas redneck trailer park murder story”, along with Beasts of the Southern Wild and Ruby Sparks. Showtimes are here.
