Last Minute Weekend Suggestions

In town for the long weekend? Bargemusic, moored to the Fulton Ferry Pier at the foot of Old Fulton Street, is having a “Here and Now Labor Day Festival” featuring works by contemporary composers, performed by an array of musicians, including The Knights, a celebrated local chamber orchestra, and Rob Schwimmer, who will play “Piano, Theremin, and introducing new instrument Haken Continuum.” More details are here (scroll down). Concerts are at 8:00 p.m Friday and Saturday, and 2:00 p.m. Sunday. “Most pieces, but not all, will be performed by the listed performers on all days.” Admission is $35 ($30 seniors, $15 students). You may reserve seats by e-mailing reservations@bargemusic.org and pay at the door with cash or check, or you may buy tix in advance at the box office. Bargemusic will also have a free, family oriented Music in Motion concert Saturday afternoon at 3:00 (doors open at 2:30; no reservations are taken).

Brooklyn Heights Cinema, 70 Henry Street (corner of Orange) will be showing Killer Joe, “a totally twisted deep-fried Texas redneck trailer park murder story”, along with Beasts of the Southern Wild and Ruby Sparks. Showtimes are here.

Great news: Smorgasburg is coming to Dumbo next Sunday! We no longer have to take the ferry up to Williamsburg to enjoy it. It’s the best Sunday morning brunch you can get for $20.

I noticed that “Killer Joe” is NC-17 for violence. Just a heads up!

Josh G, you’re beyond welcome. I don’t think I’ll be hitting that one, but enjoy!
