Car Fire on Atlantic Avenue

From the BHB Inbox comes this news item and photo from”Valerie”:

Today there was a pretty big car fire on Atlantic Avenue and court. It actually scared me quite a bit, since I could see the whole thing from my window. I left the house in a hurry since I did not see fire fighters right away and imagined the worst when my windows got covered in a black smog. But when I got back, I was able to take some photos of the car. It could be one of the “Blue Car & Limo” vehicles.

It was actually just an old car. Not a car from Blue Car and Limo.

The car was slowly smoking while I was at the bus stop right in front of it and decided it might be a good idea to cross the street.

A FDNY van had responded but a truck hadn’t arrived yet.

After crossing the street, the driver decided to GET BACK IN THE CAR to pull out some belongings and immediately after doing so the car erupted into a roaring fire.

GM may be in trouble these days, but they sure have come a long way since the bad old days when Cadillacs would spontaneously combust!

Initially on fire, but exploded with copious amounts of thick black smoke as I walked around the corner before going to Trader Joe’s. Engines from Ladder 118 on Middagh Street pulled up just as it exploded, and for a minute or so we had gridlock at the very busy corner of Court and Atlantic. Fire put out in a minute or so. Fortunately it was on a day with a stiff wind and the smoke blew away eastward, away from the many onlookers.
