What’s with my previous comment awaiting moderation??

  • Knight

@PierrepontSkin: did you use one of Geroge Carlin’s “7 Words You Can’t Say on TV” (at least one of which you now CAN say on TV)?

  • PierrepontSkin

@knight, HAH! That made my day! I didn’t though. I did use the words “meth” and “sexual”, but only in making fun of the trolling that’s going on.
I also told Homer that I love what he does on here but he needs to flag the IP addresses of said trolls.

    @ CJG,

Two orthopedic surgeons for Knee Replcements are Leo Varielle, MD of Garden City, NY and Michael Errico, MD of Manhasset, NY.

Varrielle is at Winthrop Unviversity Hospital in Mineola and Errico is at North Shore Long Island Jewish Health Care System in Manhasset.

Dr. Errico is the father of famous actress Melisia Errico who stared in My Fair Lady on Brodway after her graduation from Yale he is a musician and a great orthopedic surgeon.

Looks like the hotel/condo selection process for BBP, Pier 1 is nearing completion, according to Crains: http://bit.ly/KYvwKi

Marilyn, if you actually lived there, you’d probably know that it’s SIDNEY Place

  • Marilyn

GHB- My I-phone changed the spelling. I do live here…, and I am but didn’t feel the need to correct myself as I figured most would understand, I was simply trying to help this young woman gain business as she is a native new yorker, and has lived in brooklyn heights her whole life.

  • Marilyn

I am from here* ( see there is the iPhone again).

  • cat

Can anyone recommend a long-distance (NY to VA) moving company–reputable and reasonably priced? Thanks.

  • GHB

Marilyn, I know… iPhone autocorrect drives me nuts!

  • Winstion Smith

GHB, you can shut off autocorrect: Settings>General>Keyboard>Autocorrect/Off.

  • GHB

    Good to know. Thanks, Winstion

@cat: My mother used to work for The Padded Wagon. They do both local and long distance moving. I’m sure they will do an excellent job! http://www.paddedwagon.com/

If you give them a call, please mention that I recommended their company.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

Movers Not Shakers is an excellent, Brooklyn based, moving company. I’ve used them three times. Not sure if they can handle such a long move, but it’s worth a call. http://www.moversnotshakers.com/

Ari – “all the hate” is for people who don’t think the rules apply to them. Insurance is expensive in New York because there are more thefts and accidents here, which the companies have to pay for, usually by raising other people’s rates – the people who obey the law and do things correctly.

Not all Police Officers are as thorough as I was, but when I was in an enforcement unit and doing car stops, I made a special point of reporting people who had New York licenses and out of state plates to their insurance companies, especially if they copped the attitude you seem to have about it. The Attorney General’s office also has a hotline. My favorite story about insurance fraud was pulling over an entitled woman with a nasty attitude for driving her minivan through the Marlboro projects. She had PA plates and no problem telling me she had an apartment in the projects and owned a vacation house in PA where her van was registered. I got to report her to both the Housing Authority and her insurance company.

  • WillowtownCop

Along the same lines, the person who parks their pink scooter on the sidewalk in front of Crumbs has the same entitled attitude that cops hate so much. It is a motor vehicle and needs to be parked in the street like everyone else’s vehicles. I have a scooter too- it gets knocked over sometimes, a mirror breaks every once in awhile, but you learn not to get so upset over it. Taking up the sidewalk with something that could easily be knocked over on a child or a dog is completely selfish, and against the law. I see you have removed the license plate so as not to get a ticket – I wonder if you’ve also scratched the VIN off, which people think is a clever trick. An even cleverer one is when the cops clip your lock, wait for you to call the precinct to report it stolen, invite you to come in to pick it up, and arrest you for tampering with the VIN when you arrive- it is a felony.

  • Ari

Hi Willowtowncop, I assume that since you’re such a thorough officer, you were easily able to make the distinction between who the car is registered to vs. who is driving said vehicle. See the BMW is registered to my fiance with Virigina plates and I drive with my NYS drivers license. What exactly would you be reporting to the AG in this situation?

Furthermore, I love it how you complain about people’s scooter etiquette. I know who you are and I’ve seen you park your scooter on Columbia place often in front or behind other parked cars effectively cutting off any potential parking space for another car in front or behind your scooter.

I particularly enjoy playing bumper cars with scooters and motorcyles when I park my BMW, it only adds to my massive sense of entitlement.

  • Willowtowncop

I’m sorry – I shouldn’t have assumed you were capable of distinguishing between parking illegally and dangerously on a public sidewalk and parking legally in a spot where a blowhard like you wanted to park his car.

I guess it’s just a small distinction – like the difference between a fiancée and a wife – you know, for insurance purposes.

  • BH’er

It would be great to have actual facts about the out of state vehicles, i.e. do they belong to students or others legitimately domiciled out of state?

Seems like a lot of cars – on one evening stroll, my wife and I counted up over 30% of plates being from out of state; unfortunately, we weren’t able to ask the owners if they live here, were visiting or had legitimate and legal reasons for having out of state plates

On the post about the inspections… NY doesn’t have jurisdiction to ticket an out of state vehicle for having an expired out of state inspection – so, that car from Ohio can go uninspected until Ohio can compel an inspection, e.g. through preventing reg. renewal

The funny thing is – you might save a hundred or two bucks with these tricks, but when you have a claim, cops and insurance adjusters have an awful lot of questions surrounding the circumstances of the incident, which puts very large sums at risk

    RISK>>reward

    think about it…

What is it with the personal attacks by some readers on this blog?

I’ve made numerous posts on this thread, merely stating facts about how I choose do certain things, and I am met with insults, childish name calling, and a complete lack of maturity and decency.

I say and do things contrary to what other posters deem as acceptable in their opinions, and I am met with ridicule and downright nastiness.

As a side note, we’ve had the BMW for almost 4 years now in BK.

Risk: 00000 Reward: $ Thousands saved.

  • Knight

To be honest, Ari, you are just as guilty about insulting your ‘opponents’ as they were. You were smug and sarcastic in your remarks, but no less offensive.
