Car Fire On Brooklyn Bridge Thursday Evening

A fire could be seen on the Brooklyn Bridge from the Promenade Thursday evening around 9:15 p.m., with plumes of black smoke blowing from the mid-section of the bridge. It appears a car may have caught on fire, with sirens blazing. The majority of the smoke had dissipated within 20 minutes or so.

UPDATE: NBC Channel 4 files a report here. More pics below.

cycled passed it an hr ago. It was a police car that was in flames. The bridge is unsurprisingly completely gridlocked

Someone, police I assume, still has a chopper up there, polluting the quiet of the cool night air. This can’t still be from the accident & jam, can it? I mean, at this point it’s just an overabundance of caution, yes?

This doesn’t surprise me. I’ve known cops that have refused to drive cars that they thought were unsafe. Most of the equipment the city provides is well beyond the sell by date if it ever worked to begin with.
