Buyer Beware: Rash Of Thefts Reported At Atlantic Ave. Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s on Atlantic Avenue at the border of Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill has reported five thefts over the past several months from unattended shopping carts.

Capt. Jeffrey Schiff, who commands the 76th Precinct, recently informed the community council that the store has no surveillance cameras installed in the crowded grocery, despite pleading with Trader Joe’s several times to install them. So far, the store has declined to cooperate with the recommended policy.

    It certainly isn’t Trader Joes fault that carts are left unattended. A little personal responsibility would be more helpful than surveillance cameras.

    I couldn’t agree more. There have been many thefts of women’s purses at Trader Joe’s. We live in a busy well populated city not a small town. Some people just don’t get it!

    People have their purses stolen in small towns too. It’s just stupid to leave valuables unattended in a public place.

    I continue to be amazed at the blind trust people have in others… leave a purse unattended in a shopping cart? This is Brooklyn, for goodness sake!
