Eagle: New Contracts for 166 Montague

At least four contracts have been signed up for residence at 166 Montague Street, aka the historic Franklin Trust Company building, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.  Remsen Street’s Kiddie Korner will be opening a second location there soon, the paper adds.

Brooklyn Eagle: Contracts…: Four units have contracts and a fifth is already spoken for and the model apartment is not even completed, [Helene Luchnick of Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Developments Group] said. She is finding that the first buyers making appointments are mainly from Brooklyn, but a few are coming from Manhattan.

“The facade is being cleaned up and restored, the fire escape is coming off the back and we’re keeping the original heavy wood front doors,” Luchnick said, adding that when the scaffolding comes down and the netting comes off people will be able to see the building’s beauty once again.

This is a lovely building but after today, those early birds who bought units (probably to flip) had better start looking for the exits, cuz all bets are off. The NYC economy has just screeched to a halt with the congress’s “no” vote on the bailout. This is going to be a bumpy ride.
