Mystery Sign On Cranberry Street: Road To Be Closed Next Wednesday

Cranberry St. Closed Wednesday 9-10

A tipster sent us this photo of a sign posted at the corner of Cranberry Street and Hicks Street. There doesn’t appear any attribution on it, and the tipster noted with sarcasm that it’s “professional looking”.
So, be warned: Cranberry Street will be closed next Wednesday from 9am to 3pm, for unknown reasons.

Any readers out there know what this is about?

This looks to be attached to the pole on the north-east corner in front of the vet, which would indicate that the stretch between Hicks and Henry will be closed. There has been a lot of on-going construction work on that particular block, as well as tree removal by the city, so take your pick. Given the crudity of the sign, I’d say this is due to private construction. Love the orange oaktag…very official..

A couple of weeks ago, a private hauling company was parked in front of co-op on Columbia Heights between Pierrepont and Clark, collecting construction debris for upwards of half an hour, and becoming verbally abusive when drivers behind them got frustrated.

So private companies can just go ahead and close roads when it suits them? This seems crazy.

I’ve been thinking of setting up a toll booth on Henry Street and charging $1.50/car. Think if I make my sign look professional enough it will fly?

Could I help you run the toll booth? I could add a credit card machine and would handle the credit card transactions…

Where did the fruit guy go this morning? Is he cutting back hours?

There is a similar looking sign up for a road closure yesterday in Park Slope. Sign is up on 7th Ave, for a closure of 3rd street – same hours as your sign.

Ah, the wandering period…the one on the sign that took a hike leftwards from its original position after St. and ended up following “Cranberry….”

Signs left on cars on the block said the closure was due to “crane activity” at a building on the block. It might have been 67 Cranberry.

Yes, there is a brownstone on Cranberry undergoing gut renovations. And i mean GUT. The entire core of the house was essentially removed and replaced. When you look through the front door you can see the trees behind the house! I bet there is going to be a crane that day working on that house.

Looks like they were hoisting A/C units onto the roof of that house mentioned above
