Fairway has the best fish – Fairway actually has the best everything. And they deliver.

I’ll second Willowtown’s praise of Fairway. The best.

I have also had bad a experience with Garden of Eden. I bought a whole fish there, when I unwrapped it a couple of hours later, I found the underside to be completely rotten (yes I kept it in the fridge). It was was so bad, I cannot excuse that the clerk did not notice when he wrapped it. I will never by fish there again.

Mr. T, Ha Ha, good one!

Fairway in Brooklyn has the best fish. Before we gave up our car we used to go every week. I always bought salmon and never had a complaint as it was always fresh. I have also had a problem with fish at Garden of Eden. They don’t take the bones out and one time the fish smelled.
I will never buy fish again at the Fairway on 72nd and Broadway. I bought scallops and they were bad, really bad.
Of course, if I wasn’t so lazy, I’d be buying my fish from a store on Grand St. in Chinatown. The salmon was the freshest and the cheapest at about 50% cheaper than the stores in the Heights.

Fairway for fish for sure. The selection is great, fish is fresh plus they have weekly sales. Just go at off peak times. They have agreat cafe area in the back right on the waterfront. Head over early and enjoy a coffee -the statue of liberty seems so close like you can reach aout and touch her! You can catch the B-61 on Atlantic Ave. Its a very quick ride and you’ll see lots of other Fairway and Ikea shoppers ..You can go online for Fairway weekly specials

Day trip out of NYC- there are also some wineries not far upstate up the Hudson, Brotherhood and others .Some even have buses that run from Manhattan. They pick up and do a wine tour and return you for a set price. A day trip to Montauk or the north shore of LI is nice too. I agree the Cloisters are beautiful in Spring- I’d wait for that.

@mlo – “Fairway for fish for sure.” Agree, but say that fast 5 times!

Just wondering and let me clarify… wondering…not mad….. not scared.. etc. but has anyone notice the fellow in the white snow boots? He always seems very jolly… hangs out in front of starbucks and now I have lately seen him in front of womens exchange.. i’m not sure if he is homeless or from the nursing home over there…I’ve just noticed his presence a little more lately. I’m sure i’ll be shot point blank for this comment or torn apart.. but I really am just curious.

@Willowtown, I agree re: Fairways’ fish, their produce is not so great.
@Runner, I used to hop on the 2/3 to Prospect Park every morning, 2 loops = a 6.7 miles plus a little more from the subway stop, and it is the most beautiful place in the city to run. get your water from the newstand when you’re done. running in bh and the bridge is a bore.

Homer: be sure to get a real installer who secures the dish, verifies that you get great signal across all channels, and is willing to come back after your first major windstorm to just check on things. I had DTV on Cranberry and it worked pretty well, the dish was secured to the roof. On Hicks I tried it for a year but could only get it to work on a 6 foot pole. The neighboring rooflines blocked just enough signal to make it useless whenever there was a breeze.

Hudson River Park is a great place to walk or run. You can run over the bridge to the Hudson River. I read that Hudson River Park now extends as far as the George Washington Bridge.

@Peas. I find the GoE fish to be fresh and good. Service can be variable, the guy who normally runs the fish counter is great, but when the meat guys step in when he’s away, results can be less than diligent.

Can anyone please recommend a handy man/furniture repair company that I can hire to come to my home to replace some springs in my sofa? Or, give me any advice you have about how one goes about getting a sofa repaired, and at what cost? I know my sofa isn’t worth the expense to send it offsite to be repaired, so that;s likely not an option. I just don’t know if in-home sofa repair is, by chance.

    Thanks for your help.
