Promenade Tree Lighting Wednesday

The Christmas tree at the Montague Street entrance to the Promenade is already ablaze with light (photo), but the official lighting, complete with carolers and local dignitaries, will happen this Wednesday evening (December 14) between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. (You can catch part of the ceremony and head to Vineapple for the BHB gathering starting at 6:00.) The Daily News warns: “Drivers should avoid Montague St. and adjacent streets in Brooklyn Heights on Wednesday afternoon and early evening.”

And stop by the BHB Mixer at Vineapple after the tree lighting!

Passed it after sunset Monday night, and it looked quite charming.

Has anyone noticed the multi-color lights on the new WTC tower? Quite festive!

the photo makes it look a little less like the Dogpatch Christmas Tree of years past.

In my opinion, this year’s tree lighting was a bust. I was surprised to see the lights ablaze on Monday night before the official lighting. Even tonight, they were lit before the official “pulling of the switch” by the child selected to do the job. And the worst was when they announced that Santa was here and would be handing out candy canes and he had no candy canes. The kids looked very puzzled and disappointed. The Choral Group was very good, though.

The Heights gentry are not terribly pro-Christmas. There isn’t a single wreath or light on my block except for mine.

glad it’s standing up straight this year.
