I think @Topham was referring to *Grand* Opticians, not Golden. I’ve also been going there for a very long time and they’re excellent.

  • Cat

    Beautiful photo!

I also go to Dr. Rizzutti for opthomalogic issues and Dr. Friedman for glasses, etc. Dr. Rizzutti said he thinks Dr. Friedman is the best optometrist in the area.

  • Anne1211

Thanks everyone. I went with Dr. Friedman thanks to the good reviews and because they take my insurance.

Btw, @here, my boyfriend and I sometimes do a loop down Columbia Heights down the big hill, into the new park and up Joralemon or Atlantic to Henry. About 2 mi+.There are often lots of other joggers and dog walkers and tourists around, but obviously go w/your gut. I don’t like Cadman at night either.

  • AEB

Freddie et T.K.: merci de tout mon couer. I had a particularly snooty cousin who used to refer to people she considered insufficiently exalted as NOC: not our class.

    Why did I mention that?

  • AEB

    couer=coeur. Pardon!

  • Willow St. Neighbor

    AEB,
As I recall from a novel I read, NOCD, not our class darling!

  • stuart

    what about the homeless yorkie?

  • BH’er

@here – check out mapmyrun.com…. you can see all the runs other people map and take your pick

A good 2-3mi loop will take you down the promenade, into DUMBO along the shore… you can loop back and run BBP to Atlantic and back around on Hicks

Pretty safe route and very little traffic

  • Willow St. Neighbor

    Stuart,
I think the Yorkie is in a foster home which could become permanent if the owner is not found.
If the owner lived anywhere in the Heights, I am sure there would have been flyers posted or word would have gotten out about a lost Yorkie. Could be the dog was dumped here.
Anyway, the dog is in good hands.

  • Nancy

Not sure if anyone got this but I sent an email that a woman named Joan reported a lost Yorkie in the 1 Hanson Place area. I tried calling the number but the voicemail was full. The dog’s name is Matsu. There were flyers up in the area. More info is on lostmydoggie.com

    Thanks for the running tips!

When seeing Dr. Friedman at Heights Vision, make sure you see Matthew when it comes time to select new frames. Have been relying on him for years and he’s the best! Always something fresh and fun. I get quite a few compliments on my choices — even from strangers on the subway.

  • CrankyOne

Big Dr. Friedman and Matthew fan here. The only glasses I ever get that I love to wear over contacts are the glasses that Matthew picks out for me. Dr. Friedman is excellent. I always specifically request Matthew when it comes time to pick out my frames. Wearing a pair of Matthew-picked frames right now. :-)

    @PierrepontSkin

You’re quite right, it’s Grand Opticians, not Golden though golden too.

I once tried Friedman. I disliked the man and his prices were absurd for his very ordinary stock.

Of course for really grand frames, one should consider Morgenthal Frederics in Manhattan. Pricey but what can compare to frames made of water buffalo horn?

  • Andrew Porter

The Christmas tree was erected at the foot of Montague Street today. A Parks Dept. worker told me that they’re having problems with year with people stealing the electric wires, for their dubious scrap metal value. Hopefully not in BH!

  • PierrepontSkin

I should clarify…I go to Dr. Jordan on Pierrepont St. for my eye exams, but Grand Opticians for my frames and lenses. Both are great.

  • stuart

    thanks willow street neighbor.
I think the yorkie was abandoned. Nice to hear he landed on his feet.

  • T.K. Small

Does the homeless yorkie wear a hoodie?

  • Willow St. Neighbor

    T.K.
Now THAT was funny! Thanks for the chuckle!
