Proofreading Anyone? New Tourism Sign on Clark and Henry Features Mini-Gaffe

BHB tipster Michael sends us this photo of a misspelling on the spankin’ new tourist sign at the corner of Clark and Henry. (Note: Homer was NOT the proofreader on this)

    Just a mini gaffe….

  • T.K. Small

Homer, there is nothing wrong with this sign. There is a building in Brooklyn, which houses a collection of small cipals. Next year they are going to construct a building for the maxi-cipals as well.

This is not the only typo. On one of
the signs — I forget if it’s for Cobble Hill or Brooklyn Heights — the sign refers to AT White’s “modelled tenements.” I don’t know if clay or Tyra Banks are involved, or perhaps some amalgam of the two, but who proofreads these things?

  • Eddyenergizer

    Apparently no one…

  • GHB

City must be cutting back on proofreaders too…

  • A

A mini giraffe would be cooler than a mini-gaffe.

  • Big Dave

@TK – you beat me to that punch!
    Cipals rule…

  • DerekJetah

Think Marty’s planning on putting a mini-golf there to help pay for travel costs for First Lady of Brooklyn.

PS Even MS Word picks up “minicipal” as wrong. How does that actually happen?

  • T.K. Small

@Big Dave: Just consider it a Small Victory.

  • Eddyenergizer

DerekJetah, what makes you think the city uses MS Word? More likely it’s an 18 year old version of WordPerfect running on DOS…

About 10 years ago, I had some dealings with the city department of housing, unbelievably, one of the forms they handed me was printed on a ditto machine!

  • GHB

A ditto machine! Is that like a mimeograph?

  • Eddyenergizer

GHB, Yes it is similar type of short run printing, you could get like a hundred or so copies using ditto. I think using mimeograph you could make a few hundred copies. Ditto ink was usually purple and the print was always slightly blurry. Anyone who went to school in the 70’s should remember them well.

To be accurate, the ditto I received from the city was in 98, so it was a little more than 10 years ago, but still…

  • Henry

There was always a supply of Delaney Cards next to the ditto machine at Brooklyn Tech.

The map also shows Pineapple Street ending at Henry Street; Pineapple Walk between Henry and Cadman Plaza W. is not shown. But those are minor quibbles.

  • David on Middagh

I thought Pineapple Walk was shown, but unlabeled?

Anyone see the construction sign on “Clinmton” & Hicks?
