The MTA has begun testing a new bus information system for stops on the B-63 route along Atlantic Avenue. Customers can get real-time information on the location of buses (either distance or number of stops away) sent to the cell phone as a text message by specifying the bus stop they’re interested in, which will have a unique stop ID number. They can also look up the information at MTA’s new website (www.mta.info/bustime) which will display a map showing the location of all buses along the route. And, local merchants along the route will be displaying bus information on video screens placed in their store windows. The MTA is also continuing work on rolling out real-time subway information through “countdown clocks” on station platforms, and has a goal of installing them in all number-line station (including Borough Hall and Clark Street) by mid-2011.
