Fireworks Coming for Brooklyn Bridge Birthday Party

New York City will spend 5 days this month celebrating the Brooklyn Bridge’s 125th Anniversary. The Brooklyn Eagle reports:

In the spirit of “The People’s Day” celebration held on the occasion of the Bridge’s opening in 1883, this fest will kick off with a public birthday party on Thursday, May 22 at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, featuring live music by the Brooklyn Philharmonic. The evening will feature a Grucci Fireworks presentation and a light show featuring a colorful array spanning the length of the Brooklyn Bridge, illuminating the New York City skyline each evening from 9 to 11 p.m. from May 22 through Memorial Day.

No word on if this item sent to us by “Luke” is related to the birthday festivities:

They’ve been installing crazy lights under the Brooklyn Bridge overpass where the steps lead up to the BB footpath. And today they’re tearing up the sidewalk (woe to the hordes of tourists I direct to those steps daily). They just lit the first of a spray of rope lights and it looks like they’ve got many more planned.
