Fatal Accident on BQE Linked to Alcohol

The Facebook page, reportedly belonging to driver Jesse Astor, lists "street racing' as one of his activities.

A 1999 Honda heading east on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at a high rate of speed overturned after it hit the median just before midnight. The driver, 25-year-old Jesse Astor of Sunset Park, was seriously injured, and his 21-year-old passenger was pronounced dead a short time later at Long Island College Hospital. Police determined that Astor was intoxicated above the legal limit, and took him into custody. He is charged with criminally negligent homicide, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and speeding.

Can we please go back to using the Queen’s English so those of us who are old can understand?

I urge all of you who are screaming accident (and everyone else too) to pass by 191 Union St and see for yourself how a Honda can fit in a suitcase when it crashes at over 100 MPH.

Most wrecks (unintended as they may be) are not “accidents.”

There’s def some dumb nosey people out there

I crashed my Honda going no more than 15 mph and my whole front caved in so jus cause his Is more wrecked doesn’t mean he was doing over 100mph so get your facts str8

Last I checked this article is based on opinion and the only ones that know the facts is the people that were in the accident sorry to say one passed away =(

Speedin to cops is 5mph or more and maybe he did consume some alcohol but not enough to say he was drunk none of u was there neither was I

If cops found alcohol on his blood as little as it maybe even less than the limit they will try to lie and say it was more than the amount he really had jus cause of wat happened

Sorry for the loss guys I actually didn’t know any of these guys personally but all I remember is speaking to Danny about selling me his cd parts may god bless his soul up there and good luck to the driver Jesse Dnt stressnone of these ppl speaking negativity

People shouldn’t drive while intoxicated. Acknowledgment of this indisputable fact does not constitute a lack of compassion for those in an accident in which alcohol may well have played a part.

It helps, rather than the opposite, to remind people of the potential consequences of driving while intoxicated, as hard as the message may be to hear if one wishes to exonerate a particular driver from responsibility in cases like the one we’re discussing..

  • panter_rokx

Yeah yeah that’s all ya keep saying pass by an see the car ! We did already an it seems like ya cops not doing your job correctly quick to point fingers an put someone in jail !! how about investigating what really happen how about that !! He wasn’t intoxicated ! Please do your job an see what really happen because ya wrong stop judging !
And for the reporters don’t write nothing if ya also wasn’t there
Jesse is not a speeding DEMON ! Like ya have him title !It was an ACCIDENT!

do you understand that or do i have to write it in king’s english !?

If the driver was over the legal blood alcohol limit, then he should be tried for vehicular homicide or manslaughter. There should be a zero tolerance policy concerning driving while intoxicated. I have no sympathy for the driver.

  • E.D BABY

no sympathy for the driver HAHA you so cold hearted !!!
I bet ya don’t say anything about that cop that killed that lady while he was DRUNK !!! Huh ?

  • Henry

The cop too should be tried by the same legal standard. We are becoming a nation of whiners and “it’s not my fault” types.

An adult accepts resonsiblity for his/her own actions. All drivers over the alcohol limit should be tried — no exceptions. Just as anyone caught with an illegal firearm gets a prison term; the same should be true of drunk drivers. They are driving a potentially lethal weapon.

Published facts: driver brags about drag racing. License suspended SEVERAL TIMES previously. I saw the car, with all the performance racing mods, flipped over, passenger side crushed.
    And yeah, I wasn’t there.

This is a tragedy, but the sooner his crew realizes that this is not “an accident” (there’s no such thing) not the result of someone being cut off (as we all have like 200 times a day if we drive in this area), the better off we’ll all be.

No one thinks that anyone who is driving after drinking and someone dies as a result is a good thing, cop, kid, whatever. It’s all tragedy.

If none of you get that there’s this thing called “responsible driving” – if you’re just another one of those “bad asses” that drives without regard for other’s lives – shame on you. But I’m sure you all drive within the law (riiight)…there are countless douche bag drivers on the road, ask yourself, are you one of them. Stop posturing for a moment, take a good look in the mirror and answer that question and if the answer’s “yes” clean up your driving before your car takes a turn into tragedy. People’s lives get ruined, people die, get a clue.

    well said Brooklyn girl!

    Jesses & Dannys crew,

I wasn’t demonizing your friends. They were 2 young men that exercised very poor judgement that resulted in a terrible tragedy.
I do know first hand what its like to lose friends and family to such foolish escapades. I was also young once and had my share daring, dangerous acts, I know the adrenaline rush can be very enticing, but it is not worth it, not when people die. You guys maybe young & full of life but you are not invincible you are adults who are responsible for your actions. Time to grow up.
