Looking for Things to Do? Some Last-Minute Ideas

If you’re in town and still looking for things to do on what promises to be a gorgeous Saturday, here are some thoughts:

Brownstone Poets is hosting a poetry reading featuring local poets Pam Laskin and James McMenamin, starting at 2:30 this afternoon, at the Park Plaza Restaurant, 220 Cadman Plaza West. Admission is a $3 donation.

While it’s outside our neighborhood, we can’t ignore Brooklyn Stories, a performance tonight at 8:00 at the Brick Theater, 575 Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg. Our own Heather Quinlan, who will be there filming the event, recommends it highly. Admission is free, but please follow the link above to RSVP, and for directions.

Don’t forget the electronics recycling event today at Pier 1, Brooklyn bridge Park, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Looking ahead to Monday, also at Pier 1, there will be a free performance of the music of Fela Kuti, performed by Sahr Ngaujah, of the cast of the Broadway hit Fela!, backed by the band from the show. The performance, sponsored by St. Ann’s Warehouse, starts at sunset, but plan to be there at 6:00 p.m. when the lawn opens to be sure of getting a space.

All great suggestions. And preferable to standing on Montague and being accosted by the religious nuts who’ve shown up in the neighborhood this weekend.
