Eagle: No Extra Stories for 75 Clinton

We previously noted the possibility that the owner of 75 Clinton, the eight story office building on the east side of Clinton between Montague and Remsen now being converted to condos, might try to add an additional six stories to the building. It seems this isn’t going to happen:

Brooklyn Eagle: The owner of the building at 75 Clinton St. in Brooklyn Heights, which previously held the Bankruptcy Court, will not be adding six additional floors as previously reported. He will, however, be making major changes to its exterior as he converts the now vacant office building to luxury condominium units over the next nine to 12 months.

According to Linda Collins’ article, the owner said the new facade will blend well with neighboring buildings. Because 75 Clinton is outside the Heights Historic District, Landmarks approval of the design is not required.

(Your correspondent is puzzled as to why the Eagle classified this article under “Sports”.)

Perhaps it falls under “Sports” because of the facade mutation?

Perhaps this belongs in the nabe newbie thread, but humor me.

I thought all of the Heights was landmarked? How does this differ from the “Historic District?”
