Thanks Haystacker. I’m always a bit dubious about listing anything on CL that’s free, but I’l think it over.

    redbaron, it’s a regular service

redbaron re: Dr. Norton Regular service, just no longer out of that office, which I think is a terrible shame. She was an enormous help to me, my own pets, and various rescues when she was there.

Diva, Billy et al., The Key Food checkout experience should improve temporarily once they bring back the summer white kids ;)

I love and thank God every day for Trader Joes, but why do some of the cashiers feel the need to comment on your purchases?… i.e., “Hey, I see tortillas here, and here’s some spinach, and here’s some jack cheese…and HEY! mushrooms! looks like you’re making some Quesadillas, huh? Really, STFU Poindexter and just ring me up… what I do with my ingredients should be none of your business.

I sometimes think it’s fun to “crack” the rude folks at Key Food and CVS by being especially kind. When you hear some of these people’s problems, you then really do start to understand the depths of their misery.

My only complaint about TJs is they really give it to you when you have the nerve to ask for plastic bags. Meanwhile, they sell all their fruit and vegetables in shrink-wrapped packaging. I’ve seen cooked pasta and cooked rice and cooked popovers in their frozen section (for people even lazier than myself) individually packaged and then boxed. All their cookies? Packaged in plastic and then boxed. All their dried fruits and nuts? Packaged in bags. All their baked stuff? Packaged in plastic. They have everything wrapped up in boxes or bags and then they get religion at the check out? I don’t get it.

I don’t really care but don’t yell at me!

Also, there are “kid free” zones all over the place. Google “55 plus community”, pick one out and then move to one. I think they’ll take you at any age as long as you share their views re: kids.

I was just on Montague Street and noticed that the old Hair Profiles space (above the cleaners) is now a UPS Store. (Of course, yesterday, while at Key Food — and I like everyone there, except for Tony — I didn’t notice if the UPS Store near Hicks is still there.)

The UPS store has moved from the spot near the corner of Hicks to the former Hair Profiles space between Henry and Clinton. That leaves Dimples as the only going concern in the strip of three storefronts on the north side of Montague at Hicks, though it appears something may be going on in the former Biviano HQ.

Crap! Really! I love the UPS location where it is. I literally can get out in PJs when I need to.

nabeguy–you may also want to check out a local parenting listserve, which is a great resource for info and the exchange of clothes, toys and other kid stuff. There is one for Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens (but I HATE the name Bococa): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bococa_parents/. There is a similar group for Brooklyn Heights parents: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BrooklynHeightsParents/. Of course, ParkSlopeParents is the biggest, but they charge. The Yahoo groups are free.

I just clicked on the Brooklyn Tabernacle/Claude Scales link and, without generating some exhausting discussion on religion, I must say that the BTC Alleluia Chorus ROCKS the house! I actually ended up in tears — a bit dramatic, I know — but the soloist and choir are breathtaking. (Their church may be worth a visit.) And I bet if you pump up the volume a bit, you’ll damn near drown out the noise of the helicopters. Thanks for sharing the link, Claude!
