Photos From Tonight’s Menorah Lighting

Tonight was the fourth night of Chanukah and the official lighting of Brooklyn’s largest menorah. Borough President Marty Markowitz was on hand as was Mehmet Şimşek, the council general of the Republic of Turkey. Markowitz said that Israel’s relationship with Turkey was a sign of the possibility of peace in the Middle East. More photos after the jump.

What is the deal with the cherry picker? Do they use that to tighten the bulbs by hand in order to turn them on?? Why not just have a switch at the bottom? It’s not like you can use the Shamash bulb to light the other bulbs anyway…
I can’t stand electric menorahs anyway. They should get national grid to sponsor a gaslight menorah! :-)
