Silentlambs, a victim's rights group, reported last week that the Jehovah's Witnesses have settled lawsuits with 16 people who claimed they were sexually abused by church elders or that church brass failed to respond to their allegations. The group asked that the church change its policy regarding reported sexual abuse. The settlements, most of them in California, were settled in February and March. The Jehovah's Witnesses would only comment that they were happy the lawsuits had been resolved.
The church's headquarters, Brooklyn Bethel, are located in Brooklyn Heights.
