The brick-and-mortar outposts of the 1800Matress.com company are closing down nationwide after the company filed for bankruptcy in March, now marking yet another vacant storefront on Montague Street.
Sleepy’s then acquired the telephone and Web properties of Dial-a-Mattress in a $25-million deal, but shuttered its remaining 20 showrooms, according to a Montague Street Sleepy’s salesman and an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal that details the company’s demise.
Thanks to Bornhere for pointing out 1-800-Mattres’ closing.
What would you want to see in the spot at 136 Montague St., near Henry Street?

I’ll take a restaurant (maybe something upscale), lounge, men’s clothing, nice retail… really anything other than cellphones, banks or “kids boutique/gym/spa” would make me happy.
Bring back Ozzie’s Coffee!
A combination gym/cafe/butcher…Hunkin’ Joe Cuts
Forget Ozzie’s. Bring back the Leaf and Bean!
Bring back Old Hungary:)
A real bakery would still be wonderful in Mr Souvlaki, and a fish store would be nifty in the used bookstore.
I second the call for men’s clothing. There is not a single place in the neighborhood to buy a pair of men’s underwear. Thats frightening to me.
Tumbleweed: Banana Republic, American Apparel. There are two.
Bar! Bar! Bar! Give us a mother f’ing BAR!
BAR, could you be more specific?
Leaf & Bean had fabulous banana walnut pancakes!

Bring back Busy Chef! (Just joking.)
How about expanding the Variety Mart store to two floors! Or just re-open the restaurant that used to be in that space with the nice backyard.
My back still hates me for the mattress I bought there two years ago.
