Theater 2020, Brooklyn Heights’ own award winning professional stage company, has received rave reviews for its performance of Sondheim on Sondheim at St. Francis College. Kristen Morale writes in Broadway World:
Theater 2020 presents the first NYC revival of the Sondheim/ Lapine musical Sondheim on Sondheim, a revue that brings many of this musical genius’ works together to create quite a show in itself. With a magnificent cast that makes harmonizing within a Sondheim score a) possible and b) seem absurdly effortless, director David Fuller brings a very noteworthy production to audiences who, whether or not they were familiar with Sondheim to begin with, will wind up loving him.
On Hi Drama, Eva Heinemann writes:
With an extremely talented cast of eight, we hear various versions of songs before we hear the ones we know. How the wrong number at the wrong place could ruin a show.
How important a hummable tune is and many more nuggets of information.
She adds:
David Fuller did a seamless job of directing this so that the film and live action worked together as a team. Judith Jarosz choreographed the movement to maximum effect.
There are six performances of Sondheim on Sondheim left: next weekend (Thursday, March 5 through Sunday, March 8) and Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. Performances are at the conveniently located Founders Hall of St. Francis College, 180 Remsen Street (between Clinton and Court). You may buy tickets here.
