From a chance to contribute to scientific knowledge about life in the changing East River to one to see planets, stars, and galaxies, Brooklyn Bridge Park offers much this weekend.
We’ll start with the stars. Saturday evening, June 4, starting at 7:00 you may look at celestial objects through telescopes, meet Astronaut Anna Fisher (photo), ask questions of scientists, watch soccer playing robots, and enjoy other activities, all in conjunction with the World Science Festival. Also on Saturday, starting at 2:00 p.m., you may participate in The Great Fish Count: help cast a net and haul in marine creatures that biologists and ecologists will identify and you may help count and then release. More information here.
If you’re busy Saturday but want to see the marine life of the East River, you have another chance on Sunday, June 5 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. “Seining” as scientists use a long net to catch fish and other creatures, let you examine them, then release them. More information here.
