On my customary morning stroll around Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park, I found actors rehearsing Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew for Random Access Theatre’s free performances of that classic comedy at the Granite Prospect on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings (July 18, 19, and 20) starting at 7:00. Also at Brooklyn Bridge Park this Sunday, the Pier Kids series, in conjunction with CityScience, presents The Great Brooklyn Bridge on the Pier 6 lawns from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. Also on Sunday Smorgasburg will be on the Pier 5 uplands (near the Joralemon Street entrance) from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and, starting at noon, there will be a free Docent Tour of Pier 1.
On Friday evening at 7:00 Bargemusic will present a concert of music from the past century, featuring works by Bernstein, Debussy, Korngold, and Schiff, performed by mezzo-soprano D’Anna Fortunato, clarinetist Paul Green, and pianist Doris Stevenson. On Saturday evening at 7:00 and Sunday afternoon at 4:00, violinist Mark Peskanov, cellist Samuel Magill, and pianist Beth Levin will perform works by Haydn, Shostakovich, Florent Schmitt, and Brahms.
