After the NY Times printed an open letter from Dylan Farrow claiming her adopted father Woody Allen molested her over 20 years ago, Brooklyn Heights resident/ “Girls” star Lena Dunham took to Twitter to express her thoughts on the issue.
Allen was defended by filmmaker Robert Weide in a Daily Beast article published last week – Dunham refers to it in her tweets below.
- To share in this way is courageous, powerful and generous. Please read: http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/kristof/2014/02/01/an-open-letter-from-dylan-farrow/ …
- In wake of Dylan’s letter I’ve noticed a lot of guys obsessed with the idea of being falsely accused…
- …as if you would just be walking down the street one day, get accused of assault or sexual misconduct, and suddenly life would derail…
- Though there have, of course, been plenty of terrible and unjust cases in the past, remember…
- Most victims NEVER speak up. Most never feel they can. These are not stories we tell for fun, attention or revenge.
- If you think I wanna see a link to your shitty blog about how the American legal system fails sex offenders you are a dummy #blocked
- Next time someone tweets the Dailybeast article at you, volley this back http://thenewinquiry.com/blogs/zunguzungu/woody-allens-good-name/ …
- ..and Dunham's boyfriend, Jack Antonoff added his thoughts to the dialogue:
- and for the record, i side with the abused child who was brave enough to speak out years later.
- calling this a “family issue” and suggesting it’s private is crazy weak. what other ILLEGAL acts are private family issues???
- can’t relate to anyone who’s reaction is anything but to stand with dylan farrow
- people I believe: abuse victims /// people I don’t: guys who marry their daughters
