Kiehl’s Grand Opening Friday

Fashion site Racked has the details on the grand opening of the Kiehl’s skin care products shop at the corner of Montague and Henry this Friday, January 31, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. You can have your skincare products needs determined by Kiehl’s SkinProfile diagnostic device, have your photo taken in the store’s permanent photo booth, and take a skateboard lesson, courtesy of Homage Brooklyn Skate Academy. There will be a DJ and refreshments, all free!

    I’m already looking forward to the Grand Closing. Hopefully, we will eventually get more business that actually cater to daily life needs, than these almost useless mall-type specialty stores.

    Well, actually, the products are good, though very, very, very, very, very, very expensive. (Did I mention that the products’ll cost ya?)

    The wonder is that Kiehl’s thinks its got a market in BH, where, as we know, people don’t groom themselves. Perhaps they’re angling for the yuppy young-uns of nearby nabes.

    A reminder for those to whom such things matter: Kiehl’s products include ingredients tested on animals.

    It’s a funny turn of events for Kiehl’s to be seen as a mall store, considering that for decades the only way to get their products was to go to their one location on the Lower East Side. (I admit their products seem ubiquitous nowadays.) Perelandra, back when it first opened on Montague Street in the late 1970s, was one of the first stores other than Kiehl’s that was allowed to carry Kiehl’s products.

    Here’s an FAQ where they talk about their use of products test on animals. According to this, it’s less than 1 percent of their tests. I don’t know what means in practical terms. There are probably independent groups like Peta that have delved into this further:
