Author Jennifer Miller’s Novel Marketing Campaign For Debut ‘Gadfly’

It was last July when BHB reported about Brooklyn Heights author Jennifer Miller’s unique marketing strategy for debut novel “The Year of the Gadfly,” as she hawked the book via a “novelade stand” at Montague & Henry streets.

That was then. Miller has now joined forces with Togather, which lends assistance to connect authors with readers via digital and in-person events. This July, she is on target—according to the Brooklyn-based organization—to “set the world record for most club visits in a single month”… 100 book clubs in 30 days. How is this possible, you ask? Read on…

A “book club” constitutes an audience of five-plus, while a “visit” comprises 30+ minutes on Skype. Togather’s Taylor Fattoross tells BHB, “We’re more than halfway to reaching our goal and have libraries, book stores and book clubs from all over the country signed up to participate.”

The Washington Post Style Blog is lending support, as has the Post’s Lifestyle print section.

On her webbie, Miller notes, “Is this crazy? Absolutely. Can I do it? Yes! But I need your help.” Each book club is eligible for free stuff, like a free copy of “Gadfly” and signed book plates.

Googled her and it looks like she’s getting an enormous number of good reviews and excellent publicity for the book, so anything she does on her own is just icing on the cake. Everyone from Oprah to The Washington Post likes her literary output.
