Lit Luminaries David Schisgall & Evgenia Peretz Heights-Bound With $5.7M Home Purchase

Norman Mailer, Henry Miller, Truman Capote, W.H. Auden, Thomas Wolfe, and Arthur Miller… Now Brooklyn Heights adds two more to its long list of literary luminaries. Documentary filmmaker & writer David Schisgall and his wife, Vanity Fair writer Evgenia Peretz, have purchased a single-family brownstone at 16 Garden Place, for $5.7 million, according to realtor webbie The Real Deal. The 3,650-square-foot three-story brownstone was built in 1901, and purchased from Katherine and Peter Darrow, according to city records.

Schisgall directed the 2007 documentary “Very Young Girls,” dealing with prostitution; and co-wrote the 2011 Paul Rudd feature film “Our Idiot Brother” with his wife. Peretz is the daughter of former New Republic editor & publisher Marty Peretz.

Streeteasy.com ranks the deal as among the top 10 in Brooklyn Heights history, Real Deal reports.

    Not sure whether being in the “top 10 deals in Brooklyn Heights history” is something to brag about, but in any event, this house (expensive as it is) sadly does not make the cut.

    Also I’m pretty sure the house was built before 1901.

    Martin Amis lives in Cobble Hill (and to my knowledge never has lived in the Heights).

    But hey, who needs accuracy when you can just cut & paste (errors and all) from another website?

    The buyers got a good pretty good deal, right? There’s a whopping total of 6 houses for sale right now in the neighborhood. And 5 of them are fixer-uppers!

    The not-famous BK Hts writer at thelunaticassylum DOT com can’t afford 5.7 million, and hasn’t been invited to dinner by the new neighbors. Nor are his emails to Mailer, Capote et al being answered. He does not lurk at P&P or the Prom. But if one must lurk, it’s a great neighborhood to do it in.
