Parsons Students Put Interpretive Display on Promenade

BHB photo by C. Scales

Returning from his cross-Brooklyn Bridge walk this morning, your correspondent noticed something new on the fence bordering the Promenade between Orange and Pineapple streets. It was a series of panels, on one side of each showing a portion of the lower Manhattan skyline as seen from the Promenade (see photo above) with helpful labels showing the names and principal occupants of the buildings. Turn the panels around, however, and you get a different view. (Photo and more text after the jump.)

The reverse of the panels shows Brooklyn Heights along the length of the Promenade, with labels identifying the streets and prominent buildings. This display was made by two Parsons graphics technology students, one from Los Angeles and one from Chile, but both now resident in Brooklyn.

Any chance of getting a bigger version of these two pics?

Hey kids… Get the HELL off my promenade!

I was wondering WTF that was, and called it in to the BHA. I noticed afterwards that it only had a bunch of the tallest and newest BH buildings listed, and was full of typographic and other errors. It left out apostrophes, had numerous misspellings and was otherwise kind of obnoxious. And, more to the point, it was a clear violation of the View Plane. It was also made of paper on cardboard; the first rain will destroy it.

@Andrew, you called it into the BHA? Please tell me you’re kidding.

It was still there yesterday at 2pm, but gone by 4pm. Lots of misinformation in the thing, btw. Showed the “Standish” [sic] Hotel as owned by the Witnesses, the New York Telephone (not Verizon) Building, the address of the St. George Tower as 44 Pineapple Street.

    But the design was lovely.

    Andrew, you’re such a (sic)ler.

There was nothing in view this Sunday. It would be nice to get a copy of it since visitors are always asking me to identify some of the buildings.
