It was a packed house last night at this month’s full Community Board 2 meeting. The night included several presentations and a goodbye from David Yassky.
Brooklyn Navy Yards: The night started with a presentation for the future plans for Building 92 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Building 92 will house a massive exhibition on the history of the yard as well as provide a glimpse at the manufacturing work going on now. The project, which is scheduled for 2011, has raised nearly $21 million of the $24 million needed to complete it.
Yassky Says Goodbye: City Councilmember David Yassky briefly addressed the board to thank CB2 for being “a pleasure to work with” and for “years of friendship.” Yassky received a large round of applause, and several board members seemed genuinely said hearing him say his goodbye.
FAB Alliance: Wellington Sharp, the hear of the Fulton Area Business Alliance, was on hand following the new business improvement district’s kick-off earlier Wednesday. He said that with the new BID, he was looking to turn Fulton Street into a true shopping destination and to “make Brooklyn the number one place to shop in New York.”
New Website: A new website for the Community Board will be unveiled very soon promised Rob Perris, district manager. The website will allow people to view scheduled meetings and agendas without receiving the monthly paper mailing from the group.
Free Flu Shots: Assemblywoman Joan Millman will be offering free flu shots at 341 Smith Street next Tuesday. If you’re interested, you can call her office to schedule an appointment at 718-246-4889.
Library Circulation: Circulation needs to rise at the Brooklyn Public Library in order to secure more funding, said Uldis Skrodelis. He said that although the library had been received a bump in the number of people visiting the library to use its resources, fewer people are actually checking out books, and it is those numbers upon which the budget is determined. He encourage people to check out books “even if it’s just for a day.” The library also unveiled a new online catalog system, he said.
