Brooklyn Eagle: Local Heights Group Fears High Rise Encroachment of Historic District: An alleged aggressive marketing campaign to interest potential buyers in the two-story building at 88-96 Clinton St. in Brooklyn Heights, currently housing medical offices, has raised concerns at the Brooklyn Heights Association (BHA).
Although the building, on the northwest corner of Clinton and Remsen Streets, lies within the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, it is not covered by the district’s 50-foot height limitation for new structures. The fear is that a taller structure, perhaps as high as the historic Franklin Trust Company building that is adjacent to 88-96 Clinton, could rise at the end of what is a brownstone row along Remsen Street, with the tallest building in the row a five-story apartment building next door.
