Latest News on Relocation of MS915 and Two Other Downtown Schools

Read the latest news about the possible (likely?) relocation of Bridges/MS 915 in Mary Frost’s report in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.

Bridges/MS 915, a middle school currently located at 105 Johnson Street at Tillary St., is slated to move to 491 Dean St. in Pacific Park near Barclays Center. MS 915 was formerly MS 8, which was connected to PS 8 until 2018, when the schools broke ties. Since then, the schools benefited from separate funding, management, and vision. Before then, Trish Peterson, the Principal of PS 8, split her time between the two buildings on Middagh St. and Tillary St. and managed both schools. Not an easy feat.

Two other downtown schools may join the move to Pacific Park – Design Works High School, currently at 424 Albee Square, and P369K, a K-12 school for students with special needs.

Read Mary Frost’s report for all the details and the reasons why elected officials and the Department of Education are urging approval of the moves. There will be a hearing on Jan. 22 and the PEP (Panel for Education Policy) will vote on the moves on Feb. 24.

So what becomes of the old building? Condos?

There is no “old building”. The middle school is currently located within a much larger (and over-crowded) high school building. The high schools on that space will undoubtedly absorb the newly emptied space.
