Whether you follow the tradition of taking down your Christmas tree and decorations on the Twelfth Night (Jan. 6), or you prefer to get that drying, shedding tree out of your home as soon as you can, Mulchfest 2022 has begun.
From Dec. 26 to Jan 9, 2022
Drop off your tree at:
Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5 at Bridge Park Drive
Brooklyn Heights Promenade at Columbia Heights and Cranberry Street [Edit: According to our pedantic reader aeshtron, “The Mulchfest location at Cranberry and Columbia Heights is on the Fruit Street Sitting Area not the Promenade.”]
Or take your tree to Chipping Weekend on Sat. Jan. 8 and Sun. Jan. 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and “take home a tree-mento – a bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree” at:
Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 2 parking lot along Furman Street
Fulton Ferry Landing at Old Fulton Street and Furman Street
If you’re unable to lug your tree to the drop off locations, the Department of Sanitation will be conducting curbside collections for mulching and recycling from Jan. 6 through Jan. 15, 2022. More information at this link. But if you can, please use the drop off locations. The trees look so sad discarded on the sidewalks and the Sanitation folks could use a break.
