East and West Wellness Heads South

I can’t remember who wrote in the comments a while back about the good experience that they had at East and West Wellness on Clark Street, but based on the signs on the door, I hope that person is doing OK…

What’s the full story on this space? I heard Tazza tried to expand and get a liquor license, but the neighborhood didn’t want liquor served across from the student housing. Why did Tazza go out if business?

Ozu, Iron Chef, Sushi Gallery, all sell alcohol. Michael Towne, Gristedes, and the “bodega” (yes it’s a gd bodega) all sell alcohol. Was this really the neighborhood’s reasoning?

A food store selling beer or a liquor store cannot be compared with a restaurant serving alcohol for on-premises consumption.

Your comment does not address the question of what exactly happened to cause the DOB to issue their order.

My comment was solely in response to “he neighborhood didn’t want liquor served across from the student housing”. I have no idea (and frankly, very little interest) about what’s going on with Tazza and the DOB.

I suspect when CassieVon… wrote “the neighborhood” the actual refusal was from the Community Board or the State Liquor Authority.

    I don’t drink, don’t care.

Still curious considering the other local businesses on that block that serve or sell alcohol.
