Brooklyn Bridge Park Provides Two Chances to Shape Up for Spring

Spring is here, and thoughts may turn to outdoor activities and getting rid of winter’s accumulated flab. If running’s your thing, go to the path in Brooklyn Bridge Park just south of Fornino’s, near the foot of Pier Six by 6:45 this Thursday evening, March 24 or on subsequent Thursday evenings, to sign in for for a 5K run sponsored by New York Road Runners. All are invited, whether experienced or beginner; strollers and dogs on leashes are welcome, and it’s free. There’s more information here.

This Saturday, March 26 from 9:00 a.m. until noon you have an opportunity to get some exercise while helping to keep Brooklyn Bridge Park in shape by joining the Park Gardeners as a volunteer for “Spring Spruce Up & Cutback”. You’ll assist “by cutting back overwintered grasses and perennials, removing winter debris, and helping tidy up the planting beds.” There’s more information here and you may volunteer here.
