The Montague Street Business Improvement District (BID) invites you to donate unwrapped, gently-used hats, scarves and gloves at designated drop boxes located at our neighborhood’s local businesses and restaurants. The holiday giving program, DROP SHOP EXPERIENCE TASTE, got underway on #SmallBusinessSaturday on November 28th and runs through December 28th.
So far the program has collected 34 hats, 12 pairs of gloves/mittens and 28 scarves. Some patrons have donated new items purchased especially for the cause including holiday toys. Others have made a double-donation of sorts. Housing Works employees Diamond and Taneisha enthusiastically explained, “a woman bought twenty scarves, she didn’t even want a bag.” Adding, “she just walked next door and dropped them right off.” Diana Dolling-Ross, owner of City Chemist who is also accepting wrapped toys in addition to the clothing items shared, “Our intention is to keep people local, to shop local so we can give back. It’s win-win.”
All donated items will be given to CAMBA, the non-profit organization which operates Brooklyn Heights Synagogue’s homeless shelter and other men’s, women and family shelters throughout Brooklyn. Per the organization’s website, “CAMBA offers integrated services and programs in: Economic Development, Education & Youth Development, Family Support Services, HIV/AIDS Services, Housing Services & Development, Legal Services…The majority of CAMBA’s clients live work and/or attend school in Brooklyn.”
If all of that isn’t feel good enough, some businesses are also offering up special promotions. So, shop til you DROP on Montague Street, take a holiday selfie and spread the good cheer on social media using hashtag #DROPonMontague.
