Björk’s Biophilia App is the First to be Added to MoMA’s Collection

Brooklyn Heights resident/pop star Björk has the distinction of creating the first app to be added to the Museum of Modern Art’s collection. Björk becomes the artist behind the first digital app added to the lauded permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
In a statement, Paola Antonelli, senior curator of the Department of Architecture and Design, said, “I started thinking about acquiring Biophilia when it was released, in 2011. At that time, a year after the iPad had been introduced, designers and developers were excitedly experimenting with apps that took advantage of a screen bigger than the iPhone.
