High Rise for Remsen?

The Eagle reports that “[a]n LLC formed by Upper West Side-based Quinlan Development Group” has acquired three adjoining buildings on Remsen Street between Clinton and Court: numbers 153, 155, and 157 Remsen (see photo), in a series of transactions for a total of $13.89 million. One of the buildings, 153 Remsen, former home of Saigon Cuisine and offices of the Brooklyn YMCA, is now vacant. The other two have commercial tenants: Wi Pie at 155 and PhysioLogic at 157 (Hair Profiles has vacated the space above PhysioLogic) and apartments above.

The high price paid by the buyer indicates that its intention is to demolish the buildings and construct a new one in their place; probably a multi-story (this block of Remsen is outside the Brooklyn Heights Historic District) residential building, possibly with commercial space at the street level.

Ugh – I hate the idea of losing Wi Pie.

  • Jorale-man

Ugh indeed. These buildings may not be in the best of shape but a highrise towering over the block and adding to the local subway congestion doesn’t sound so appealing either.

  • Bloomy

The best thing about Wi Pie is the name, and that isn’t saying much.

Will they build us a Library? One without nannies, and homeless people surfing porn sites?

  • marshasrimler

What is wrong with nannies.. what we need is a library with programs for children.. gee. be careful what you say about homeless people
you need to have some heart and we need a refurbished.. rebuilt library…….the walling in of the heights continues.

Lose the best PT and Chiropractic office for more luxury housing? The Heights is over…

  • ernest

Being sarcastic. I really like children (especially roasted at Thanksgiving – with an apple in their mouths). I was goofing on previous comments about restoring the existing Library, because the air-conditioning is broken.

    Ha, ha.

  • Lady in the Heights

Have you seen what goes on with the nannies at the library? It is horrible. If the parents’ of these kids had any idea of the neglect happens they would be horrified!

  • marshasrimler

yes.. the library needs to program activities for the children to fix this
