Reminder: Stephen Levin Hosts Free Screening Of ‘Gasland’ Monday At BH Cinema

Reminder: Tonight, Monday, October 1, at 6:45, Council Member Stephen Levin hosts a free screening of “Gasland”—Josh Fox’s documentary about the Halliburton-developed drilling technology known as “fracking,” or hydraulic fracturing—at the Brooklyn Heights Cinema, 70 Henry Street. The movie is also airing on HBO throughout 2012.

More info: “When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called ‘Gasland.’ Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown.”

I clicked on this in total excitement thinking it was about, as the headline states, a showing of “Gaslight,” which I’d have paid to see if it were coming to the neighborhood.

    Alas, it wasn’t. Such disappointment.

Done properly Fracking is a safe way to meet energy needs reduce dependence on foregn oil and boost local economies.

Most of the anit-fracking movement do not have a clue as to the benefits of Fracking

  • Bill W

But to quote Lisa Jackson, President Obama’s EPA director, there is “no evidence” that fracking causes environmental harm.

Fracking has been around for 60 years.

If there is “no evidence” and you want to hang them anyway, you are part of a lynch mob.

    @ Bill W. well said.

We have enough natural gas in the USA to meet our energy needs well into the next century reducing our dependence on foriegn oil, OPEC.

Back in th 1990’s Brooklyn Union Gas now National Grid produced a documentry hosted by Actress and Envionmentalist Lyndsay Wagner about the beniefits of natural gas vehicles – NGV’s The Road to Clean Air you can get a CD for free via National Grid.

Fracking has boosted economics in depressed Western New York a boom for economys.
