Who Threw Garbage Around Chase Bank on Montague Street?

Who knows why garbage was strewn around the Chase Bank at Montague and Clinton Streets this morning?

Sanitation pickup gone awry? Customer upset over their balloon mortgage? From our personal experience, Chase is far less annoying than some other banks (we’re looking at you Bank of America) but “relationships” are in the eye of the beholder. Errrr sumthin’.

BHB reader Alana sent in these photos and fills in a blank, sorta, ” There was garbage on Montague, Clinton and Pierrepont. I was told that this is the mess cleaned up.”

It was disgusting. I saw it earlier. All over the stairs up to the doors, and along the side on Clinton Stret, even onto the window ledges. This wasn’t an accident

  • Gary

There were eggs thrown at the front doors and steps. Garbage open and thrown around the entire building. It is awful and a waste of time for someone to have to clean up someone else’s stupid act!

  • AmyinBH

Disgruntled former employee or teenagers. (I would love to blame the tourists, but I can’t this time. heehee) There must be external security cameras aimed at the door.

Someone had also posted a sheet of paper on the street post opposite that was some sort of rant about a child custody case. I didn’t read it all, but I did scan it to see if it mentioned Chase anywhere. It did not. If I were a detective, I would certainly investigate — two odd, public expressions of grievance the same morning on the same corner?

The child custody fliers have been in various locations all over the nabe for at least several weeks. I saw one two weeks ago on Joralemon in front of Equinox. I doubt there’s a connection.

  • David on Middagh

AmyinBH, I think rather a disgruntled customer. Some people just hate their bank.

  • Jorale-man

I wonder if it was the couple walking down Joralemon Street that I saw today, dropping their unwanted lottery tickets on the ground. It somehow fits the profile – litterbugs with bad financial sense.

  • WillowtownCop

Humans are the filthiest, smelliest, most disgusting creatures on earth.

    Jorale-man you are funny…
its truly sad what’s going on around us…

Back in the 60’s-70’s there was trash everywhere, no one would have given this scene much notice. Times have changed for the better and for the most part NYC streets are pretty clean, at least compared what use to be. I have noticed one of the common litter items that seem to endure are lottery tickets. I guess that losing ticket is too painful to hold onto, even to the corner trashcan.

Have you ever asked Chase what they charge for certified check or a money order? Yikes! I don’t believe TD Bank charges their customers anything for a money order.

There is some more insidious garbage coming around to our mailboxes today here in Brooklyn Heights and the City. It is a big colorful brochure claiming that nuclear energy is necessary for NY City’s economy and safe. It has a quote from Patrick Moore, a CRONY of big oil, coal, nuclear, etc. corporations, and Mansanto, filthy rotten profiteering corps. that are taking over our country with Karl Rove’s “Citizens United Versus The Federal Elections Commission” decision by the right wing supreme courte justices that allows corps. to give money to elections campaigns as if they were individuals. Patrick Moore has been totally disowned by Greenpeace for selling out, and President Obama, also on the brochure, is supported by EXELON, one of hte biggest nuclear energy producers in the country. This garbage in our mail is all lies. FOR THE REAL TRUTH on nuclear energy and its fail deadly horrors: PLEASE Read Greenpeace Statement On SELL-OUT, CRONY Dr. Patrick Moore & The NRC http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/en/media-center/news-

Also to save our democracy and keep multinational corporations with only profit motives from controlling our elections with their huge overwhelming contributions and lobbying and propaganda, go to PUBLIC CITIZENS to learn the truth: Public Citizen Home Page http://www.citizen.org/ – Public Citizen is a national, nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1971 to represent consumer interests in Congress and it is working to institute an amendment to the constitution that would prevent corporate control of our elections. THIS IS THE MOST VITAL ISSUE FACING OUR DEMOCRACY. Do not mix-up the work of “Citizen’s United” with PUBLIC CITIZENS. “Citizens United” is the P.R. brain child of the monstrously evil genius Karl Rove and the far Right Wing Tea Party candidates created by big corporate money to propagandize and control our elections and destroy our democracy. THIS IS THE REAL GARBAGE TO WORRY ABOUT NOW. PLEASE go to Public Citizen Home Page
http://www.citizen.org/ – Public Citizen, a national, nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1971 to represent consumer interests in Congress,There is much real VITAL TRUTH TO BE LEARNED THERE to save our children and our democracy. BEWARE OF THE MOST INSIDIOUS GARBAGE OF ALL, though who every threw this on our Montague street should be prosecuted fully. Arrggh.

    above is off topic

  • David on Middagh

I probably agree with Daniela Gioseffi’s positions, but all-caps yelling in misposted rants is a real turn-off. (D.G.: At least put this stuff in an Open Thread–that’s what they’re for!)

  • JM

Good post Daniela (I don’t care if it was off topic, although she did mention the garbage!). Maybe we can start a discussion on BHB about those ridiculous and, yes, offensive pro-nuke mailers. Why should we wait until Wednesday? It’s much more concerning than a load of trash that will be gone tomorrow (unlike spent nuke fuel). AND I LIKE CAPS, they help indicate a person’s speaking tone in writing! (like an exclamation mark). I’d put a smiley face here but THOSE drive me crazy…(see I also like “…..” , go figure)….

  • Buggs Bunny

Just a thought… Maybe we should store some spent nuclear fuel inside Mayor Mike’s lead-lined keister? He’d be so hot and bothered over it, he couldn’t run for office again. No condos in the “park”.

I spoke to the bank custodian during clean-up. He noted that the day earlier, a “street person” had attempted to submit a withdrawal slip at the bank. (He had no account) When the bank did not process his slip, he returned at 2 or 3 in morning with garbage collected from each of the nearby street bins. The police were notified and the suspect was subsequently taken in.

It was a Chase customer who was upset because the bank would not offer him a check cashing service. He was caught on the scene by police officers.
