NY Post: Sharks Circled Cadman Accident

In the NY Post's coverage of yesterdays car-meets-bus shelter accident at Cadman Plaza, we learn that more than a few of the loitering lawyers in the area pounced  and solicited the injured, at least 3 of whom worked in the courts:

NY Post: Driver Likely…: One court employee said the accident was a field day for the swarm of attorneys in the area. "They were running around handing out their cards to all the victims. It was disgraceful," he said.

The NEW YORK POST (caps intended) reports that an unidentified “court employee” states that unidentified lawyers “were running around handing out their cards to all the victims.” Well, of course everything must be true given these impeccable journalistic standards.

why is this a surprise we know what all lawyers are

Just to clarify, I’m not defending lawyers, I just get annoyed when, like here, the NY Post is cited as if what they reported is actually factual and accurate.

If you were a plumber and water was pouring out of the front door of someone’s house because of a broken pipe, wouldn’t you give them your card, too?

Looks like the birth of a new reality series, “My Big, Fat, Annoying Ambulance Chaser”.

    RE: 11:28pm
Your analogy is off… That would work if it was doctors running around the accident scene offering their services – doctors at an accident and plumbers at a flood can help. At the accident, the lawyers can only look to pass blame and make money. Not saying there isn’t a role for that, but it’s pretty low-class to run around the accident scene like that (assuming the Post story is right)…

Playing devil’s advocate: But would it be better if these people had no legal assistance at all? I know that these particular lawyers might only have been interested in money, but in this litigation-happy era, don’t you think it’s in the best interest of the driver and the people who were injured to know about their rights and their options in this situation – the sooner the better?

I heard people talking about this accident the other day in Union Square. One of the woman said her husband had just crossed the street in time, avoiding the accident. Scary.
