July 4th Fireworks NOT Visible From Brooklyn Heights, the Promenade or Brooklyn Bridge Park

It’s heartbreaking. Ever since Macy’s moved the fireworks barges up the East River, people still came in droves every year. Entire families with grandmas and tots, lugging beach chairs and coolers, setting up on the promenade as early as 2:00 p.m. Let’s hope they get the message in time this year. All reports are that the fireworks will not be visible from the Promenade or Brooklyn Bridge Park this year. Here is Macy’s (Macy’s’s?) handy graphic on where the barges will be set up and where to watch.

    A little logical information never stopped anyone from drawing their own [wrong] conclusions. Besides, in modern America, everyone knows that this explanation is merely an excuse to prevent people from getting the best view of the fireworks.

    Excuse me, have to pause and check under my bed. I’m sure I could hear the ghost of Robert Moses muttering something under there…

    Yes, it really is a testament to how uninformed a large chunk of the population is. It’s been a few years since they were visible from the Heights. Maybe by now people will start to get it? Maybe?

    Except on the Monday 8am WQXR news they said the fireworks were visible from Brooklyn Bridge Park. I called them, left a message, but…

    WNYC has been announcing all day during the local news segment that the fireworks will be visible from Brooklyn Bridge Park. I guess they didn’t get the memo.

    Jorale-man, did you read the article in the NYTimes today about a facemask that is 100%effective, as opposed to the N95 which is probably less effective than the advertised 95% considering that most individuals put them on incorrectly.

    The mask is produced by 3M and most importantly, reusable. They are called Thermoplastic Elastomer Half Mask. Maybe a bit extreme with his variant but who knows about the next one.

    Thanks, Karl. Yes, I did read that. It looks a bit onerous but, as you say, the heavy-duty gear may come in handy at some point.

    Remember the fireworks in 1983, when they celebrated the Brooklyn Bridge’s Centennial? Those were great!

    I took a walk Monday night along the Promenade and Columbia Heights. Thousands of people waiting to watch the fireworks. I told bunches of people you can’t see the fireworks from here—only the fire flies. I didn’t stick around to see what happened at 9:25.

    The police from the 84th and several other precincts were on Columbia Heights. Lots of trash on the sidewalks, because all the trash cans had been removed.

    Ugh. I feel sorry for them (and especially their kids) but it’s been this way for what, five years now?

    And nothing like visiting another neighborhood and trashing their sidewalks….
