Photoville sponsor United Photo Industries, whose rustic pop-up village of shipping containers transformed into temporary exhibition spaces returns September 19–29, and will be previewed by “The Fence,” (which drew 1 million visitors over 10 weeks in 2012), announces it has a very last minute public art opportunity to find between 14-22 (Brooklyn-based) photographers whose series reflect sport and/or recreation.
Photos can represent “photos of children playing in the street, to a group of senior citizens in the park practicing tai chi, to athletes training for the big game.” Email submissions by this Sunday, March 31: info@unitedphotoindustries.com.
Meanwhile, the deadline for Fence photo submissions is coming up—April 15. “Photographers of all levels are invited to submit their best image series that capture the essence of ‘community’ within the categories: home, streets, people, creatures, play.” Images will be judged by “an internationally renowned jury,” with the chosen comprising the 1,000-foot-long Fence. The entry fee is $35 per series (up to 6 images). Pics can be registered and uploaded online.
The Fence in Brooklyn Bridge Park will be unveiled in June “with a rollicking fun party” in the park and will be on view all summer long, leading up to the fall Photoville. Last year’s debut 60,000sf Photoville event featured a mix of exhibitions, lectures, hands-on workshops, night-time projections, a photo dog-run, a camera-flower greenhouse and a beer garden with food trucks.
