Here It Comes: Fervent February Blizzard Blows Through Heights

It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic… As the season’s first legitimate snowstorm hankers down over the Heights, the early morning rain turned to snow and sleet by late afternoon. Thanks to increasing wind, those little pellets of ice feel like needles blowing sideways.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the five boroughs through 1 p.m. Saturday, as afternoon snow mixes with sleet and rain before changing to heavy snow after sunset. Then: 1 to 2 inches per hour with wind gusts up to 50 mph. In all, 5-8 inches of snow are forecast.

Another overblown, overhyped, faulty forecast? Time will tell…

Pics below as the snow and wind picked up in the 3 o’clock hour Friday. (CT)

Love that song. It’s on my iPod workout set list. I miss the 80s.

5 to 8 inches. Doesn’t seem like Armageddon to me.

Not too many years ago, a storm like this would have not gotten much more media coverage than “It’s going to snow 5- 8 inches… Now sports”.

  • TeddyNYC

Looks like it won’t be a bad weekend after all. It’s a different story for Boston.

    nemo’s a no show.

I blame the consolidation of our mass media.

Oh, this is silly. My block has been scraped by the plow how many times now? Four? And it’s not even 7 A.M.

Snow days used to be quiet.

  • DIBS

I agree. Absolutely ridiculous. The fear mongering they promote does no one any good….just like Obama does.

  • DIBS

Always loved the sound of car wheels crunching in the snow as you lay there in bed listening to the silence in the morning

I think that was from the 90’s

Snow creates a great family day. We are going to get the sled out and take the children for a ride through the neighborhood.

  • DIBS

I don’t know about the skanky part where you are but the sidewalks are all shoveled here

  • Gerry

We will keep the sled ride to prime Brooklyn Heights you should no that.

  • DIBS

Maybe you should stay in and learn how to spell.

You just “know” that was beyond a typo.

  • Gerry

Whoops, boner, its know and not no.

Time-Warner Cable’s NY1 consistently gets their forecasts wrong. Until last night they were still estimating 4-8″ of snow. Their forecasts usually vary from other broadcast channels by up to 7 degrees. Another snowstorm they predicted “a dusting” but we got 4″. As a weather freak, this really pushes my buttons…

  • Andrew Porter

    Boner? Really?

  • ltap917

According to you the only prime heights is Montague Terrace.

  • ltap917

My daughter lives north of Boston and they cannot open their front or back doors. Windows covered in snow too.

That wasn’t so far off for here. looks like about 8″

no way a man? as educated as Gerry, makes that mistake then says ‘boner’…he is obviously a figment of his own imagination. Nice try Gerry, but no one could be as obnoxiously arrogant as you are…im glad we finally got to the bottom, that you are not real…Society can know breathe a sigh of relief, that someone as horrible as your alter ego that you post under doesn’t truly exist.
