Heights Neighbor Björk Releases “App Album” “Biophilia”

Warbling Icelandic recording artist and Brooklyn Heights neighbor Björk, who bought a pad on Henry Street with filmmaker hubby Matthew Barney in 2009, has released new album “Brooklynphilia.” No, wait, that’s not right: It’s “Biophilia.” She appeared on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” January 31 to rap about the project and perform tracks.

According to USA Today, the recording is—historically—the “first app album,” in collaboration with Apple. Its iTunes link explains that “Biophilia” comprises “a suite of original music and interactive, educational artworks and musical artifacts,” and is released as 10 in-app experiences accessed “as you fly through a three-dimensional galaxy that accompanies the album’s theme song ‘Cosmogony.'” Say what?

Perhaps you can figure out what that means as Björk attempts to explain it to Colbert via clips at USA Today’s Pop Candy blog here.

I just followed Bjork down the street a few minutes ago. She looked nothing like the picture in this article. No makeup, straight brown hair. Other than the lime green tights, pretty ordinary looking.

    Willow St. Neighbor & Others,

Be careful in approaching Bjork. If she thinks you’re stalking her, she could go ballistic on you like she did to a reporter, giving her quite a beat-down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYyyqIZTvYY

Poor choice of words on my part. I was going to the library and she was walking in front of me. I see celebrities all the time and could basically care less. I am 60+ years old and have really never heard her music.
But, thanks for the heads up. It was my first sighing of her since she moved into the neighborhood two years ago. Probably won’t see her again.

I just watched the video. Pretty scary. Next time I see her, I will cross the street. It will be safer!!!

A lot folks like to focus on how strange she can be. Personally, I find the increasingly stupid things she wears to be perhaps the least interesting thing about her.

The important thing is that her work as a singer is totally solid. Check out her doing a fantastic job with this jazz classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNdFYbe1XoM&feature=related

I was curious about her and decided to watch her on youtube.
As a “senior citizen” (ouch) I had never even heard of her. She is, as someone stated, a very gifted artist.
